Botox®
Dr. Charles Slack offers Botox® Cosmetic injections to patients in Plano, McKinney, and the surrounding communities at his Allen, Texas plastic surgery practice. Most Americans are aware of the benefits of Botox®, and since the FDA’s approval of Botox® for cosmetic purposes in 2002; millions of people have had simple, ten-minute Botox® injection treatments for cosmetic benefits.
BOTOX® For the Relief of Facial Wrinkles and Creases
As Dr. Slack explains in his initial consultations, the FDA approved Botox® Cosmetic for the temporary relief of moderate to severe frown lines between the brows in men and women from 18 to 65 years old. It can also be used for several other types of facial lines such as:
- horizontal wrinkles or creases in the forehead, specifically those that appear or deepen with muscle movement.
- vertical crease between the brows which sometimes create an “always-angry” or tense expression despite one’s good mood.
- dynamic wrinkles, which are caused by facial expressions such as crow’s feet and other wrinkles around the eyes.
Botox® Cosmetic injections for these indications are effective, providing smoother skin and a refreshed yet natural appearance. To have your crow’s feet gone or a set of forehead lines or crease erased makes a marked change in your appearance, yet the change is not startling. Family, friends, and coworkers may simply suspect that a person who received Botox® injections from Dr. Slack is merely feeling great and rested or is less stressed than usual. It’s no surprise that Botox® injections have been the #1 non-surgical cosmetic procedure in the U.S. for many consecutive years.
Easier Than Surgical Procedures
Botox® is an excellent option for people who want to improve their appearance in a non-invasive manner but still gain a definite improvement. It’s a simpler, non-surgical, and more affordable way to look fresher and more vital compared to plastic surgery.
In addition, Botox® Cosmetic injections can be performed by Dr. Slack in combination with other procedures, such as the dermal filler Restylane®. For example, a Botox® injection can relax a facial crease, and an application of Restylane® can fill in any deeply etched left-over line.
Who Can Get Botox®?
Although the millions of past uses of Botox® have confirmed its high safety profile, a woman who is pregnant (or may be pregnant) or breastfeeding should not get Botox® injections unless the therapeutic benefits are truly necessary.
At an extensive initial consultation with Dr. Slack, he will determine your health, desires, and expectations, and he’ll be able to determine whether Botox® is an appropriate option and whether additional or different procedure(s) are better alternatives. If Botox® Cosmetic (or Therapeutic) is chosen, an appointment for the treatment will be scheduled at the Allen, Texas office. Each patient’s face is unique, and Dr. Slack will explain ahead of time the procedure as it applies to you including the following information:
- how many injections will be used
- the sites of the injections
- the effect that can be expected from the injections
- how soon the change will be apparent
- how long the effects of the Botox® can be expected to last
The Botox® Injections Procedure
Botox® Cosmetic treatments involve just a few injections performed in Dr. Slack’s office, with no need for anesthesia. A topical anesthetic cream can be applied first, if desired, to reduce discomfort. Botox® is injected with a very small needle.
An entire Botox® treatment session takes roughly ten minutes. Some patients may develop a small bruise at the injection site, but this disappears quickly. You can return to your daily activities immediately, and there’s no need to have any help getting home.
The full results of the Botox® Cosmetic injections will be apparent in about five to 14 days. The gradual nature of the changes is a plus; it won’t be suddenly obvious to others that you have had the injections.
The changes achieved by Botox® Cosmetic injections last about four months.
