Breast Lift with Augmentation
Breast lift with augmentation refers to a procedure which combines the breast lift with a breast augmentation. This procedure enhances the size and contour of the breast while raising the breasts, lifting loose and sagging breast tissue. Implants are used to increase the volume of the breasts while the breast lift keeps the breasts firm and helps retain shape for years to come.
Why Breast Lift with Augmentation?
Breast tissue changes over time and loss of elasticity can cause the breasts to take on a deflated, uneven, or sagging look. In many cases, these changes are natural and may result from life events and other factors including:
- Pregnancy
- Breastfeeding
- Aging
- Weight changes
- Gravity
- Heredity
Breast lift with augmentation restores the youthful appearance of the breast tissue while providing added volume. The result is firmer, shapelier breasts that are free from sagging.
Benefits of Breast Lift with Augmentation
The many benefits of breast lift with augmentation include:
- restores the youthful look of the breasts while increasing size,
- corrects breast issues which occur naturally over time, and
- improves symmetry and appearance of the breasts.
Gravity affects breast implants differently than natural breast tissue, so the results of the combined procedure last longer, often eliminating the need for future procedures
Candidates for Breast Lifts
Women looking to undergo a breast lift with augmentation are ideally those in good physical health and mental health. With any breast surgery, it is recommended that the breast tissue be fully developed; though in special circumstances, such as reconstruction, exceptions may be made for younger patients. Because a breast lift with augmentation increases breast size and provides lift, ideal candidates for the procedure include:
- post-maternity women who have experienced sagging and stretching due to pregnancy and breastfeeding,
- those that have experienced weight fluctuations that have affected the size and shape of the breasts, and
- women with naturally pendulous breasts who wish to add volume along with lift.
Every woman has their own reasons for choosing a breast lift with augmentation. It is a very personal decision which may be chosen based on a number of factors. A personal consultation with Dr. Slack will help you discover if a breast lift with augmentation is the right procedure for you.
How the Breast Lift Procedure is Performed
Patients are under general anesthesia during the surgery, which typically takes three to four hours. During a breast lift with augmentation, an incision is made in each breast to remove the excess skin that makes the breast tissue sag. The lift is performed using one of three general lift procedures; the circular, or doughnut mastopexy; the lollipop lift; or the standard mastopexy. Implants are placed either beneath the pectoral muscle or mammary gland. Dr. Slack will review your procedure before surgery day and answer any questions about your treatment plan.
What to Expect after a Breast Lift with Augmentation
After a breast lift with augmentation, you should expect the breasts to be sore, swollen, or even bruised for a number of weeks. Drain tubes placed during the surgery will be removed in our office approximately 4 days after your procedure is performed. We recommend patients return to work one week post-surgery and avoid heavy lifting or strenuous duties. Massaging exercises should be part of your routine about a week after surgery, but vigorous exercise regimens shouldn’t be resumed for about 4 to 6 weeks after the procedure is performed. Many women are concerned about scarring after the procedure: while scars are dark early on, they will fade over time and may not be noticeable.
